The VISA debit card has a newer and more convenient sibling: the VISA Electron card. It is common for accounts that do not allow overdrafts, or that cater to people under the age of 18, to include this feature. That’s why they’re a good choice for people who only need a card for everyday purchases and don’t care about any frills.

The VISA Digital Wallet Services

Since Visa Electron was designed primarily as a debit card, it performs nearly all of the same functions as a regular Visa card. Everywhere you see the Visa Electron logo, you can use your card to get cash from an ATM, send and receive money, shop online, and even make phone purchases.

Visa Electron cards are different from regular Visa debit cards in that they cannot be used to make purchases until the corresponding bank account has sufficient cash, eliminating the possibility of overdraft fees and excessive debt.

I’d like to become a Visa Electron user, but I don’t know where to start.
Since 2009, fewer financial institutions have made Visa Electron products available, preferring instead to issue regular Visa debit cards. However, Halifax remains the sole large bank to issue Visa Electron cards.

When opening a Halifax Easycash account, you’ll need to give the following information:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Address
  • Marital status
  • Number of children
  • Nationality
  • Preferred method of deposit
  • Purpose of account
  • Contact details

Is Visa Electron accepted anywhere?

Despite Visa Electron’s lower acceptance compared to other Visa credit or debit cards, it is accepted as payment by the majority of online betting sites and online businesses. Coral, WilliamHill, Amazon, and Western Union all take Visa Electron for deposits and withdrawals.

How much does it cost to use Visa Electron?

Most Visa Electron services are free additions to checking accounts; however, some checking accounts may have charges, and some retailers may charge processing or service fees when you pay with Visa Electron; therefore, it is important to verify any fees associated with your purchase before completing the transaction.

Features

Visa Electron can be used with the Visa Personal Payments service, which enables clients to send and receive money from their mobile device, in addition to making card payments. You only need the recipient’s phone number, or for them to have yours, to send a text message. A secure code and encrypted link are sent via text message to the recipient, who then completes the transaction on a secure website.

Transferring up to £250 in your local currency is free with Visa Personal Payments.

Security

Due to Visa’s prominence as a global payment system, the company has invested heavily in security and is constantly innovating to improve it.

With Visa Electron, your account information is the only thing that may be used to make a purchase.
